Complaints, Disciplinary and Conflict

We know that unfortunately sometimes society events and group chats can see inappropriate messages, bullying, harrassment, and more. While it is extremely rare, it should be taken seriously if it does occur.

Reporting bullying, harassment, inappropriate behaviour and safeguarding concerns

The Report + Support platform allows you to confidentially tell City St George’s about something that has happened to you, or to someone else, so that you can be supported. If you, or someone you know, has experienced unacceptable behaviour including bullying, harassment, discrimination, a hate incident, domestic abuse, or sexual violence, you can report it here.

When reporting an incident, you can do this with, or without, your personal details. If you include your personal details, City St George’s will be able to contact you and provide you with support. We aim to be in touch within two working days. If you choose not to include your personal details, City St George’s won’t be able to contact you and it will be unlikely that we will be able to take any direct action as a result.

If you are on Campus and are in immediate risk or in need of urgent support, please find a safe space and call Security on 0207 040 3333. If you require emergency help, please call emergency services on 999. For all non-emergency services call 101.

If you have concerns in relation to unacceptable behaviour, you can speak to a member of the students’ union team. The students’ union team will be able to signpost towards the available support and provide further guidance on reporting. You can get in contact by emailing SUCommunities@city.ac.uk (societies) or sports@city.ac.uk.

As a committee member, members of your group may raise concerns regarding behaviour of other students or safeguarding concerns. You should signpost the student to Report + Support where they will receive support from City St George’s. If you need any support with handling any concerns raised, please contact a member of the students’ union team who will be able to advise.

Cyber bullying/harassment

The Union does not tolerate any form of bullying or harassment by or of any members of its student groups. This includes:

  • Maliciously, negligently or recklessly spreading rumours, lies or gossip.
  • Intimidating or aggressive behaviour, as perceived by those viewing the social media.
  • Offensive or threatening comments or content, as perceived by those viewing the social media.
  • Posting comments/photos etc. deliberately, negligently or recklessly mocking an individual with the potential to harass or humiliate them, as perceived by those viewing the social media.

Cyber bullying may also take place via other means of electronic communication such as email, text or instant messaging. You should always report bullying or harassment to the social media platform. Also, consider taking screenshots which could be used as part of a report or complaint. You can report bullying and harassment through the You Report, We Support tool or through making a complaint to the Students’ Union.

Conflict and Mediation

If the issues that arise are just general disagreements that do not require reporting, you should talk to the parties involved to try and come to a conclusion.

Communication is your most powerful tool for the year, and good communication can help fix a number of issues. If this is not possible, or you don’t feel comfortable doing so, you can contact sucommunities@city.ac.uk and we will support you through mediation.
