Be The Change You Want To See: Stand In The Autumn Elections!

What are you waiting for? Nominate now

Want to do things differently? Want to make a difference? Want to enhance your employability skills? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the 2019 autumn elections are definitely for you.

There are a range of positions available from Student Councillor to the Ethics and Environment Officer. So, whether you want to shape the policy and direction of the Students’ Union, or represent the international students (and others!) here at City- there is something for everyone to get involved with.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

On top of the opportunity to meet and work with fantastic people, you are also able to have a direct say in the functioning of the Students’ Union. Ensuring there is always a halal option at food outlets at City? Done. Making sure all events on Campus are free? Already completed. Stand for a position if you want more policies, like these, passed!

Employers love passionate and well-rounded individuals. Getting involved will not only demonstrate that your skills go beyond your studies, but also teach you initiative, how to run in an election and how to lead successful campaigns. The roles will further develop your leadership, teamwork, public speaking, creative problem solving, communication and organisation skills. All vital characteristics when entering the world of work.

The Sports Officer for 2018/19 says this: In my final year of studies, I gained a wealth of new experiences, from working on ways to increase participation in sport, to meeting Meghan Markle (The Duchess of Sussex). I ran campaigns in consent, antibullying, rainbow laces and mental health, working alongside passionate individuals wanting to create positive change. The position also led me to becoming Chair of the Executive Committee, being nominated for Student of the Year in the Union Awards and most importantly, securing fulltime employment within the Union after graduation. My biggest regret? Not getting involved earlier.
