The Union is looking to hire students able to commit up to 9 hours per term on an occasional basis to supports its Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion work for the academic year 2020/21.

With three Full-Time Student Officers, a small team of permanent staff and the involvement of student volunteers, City Students’ Union is at the heart of activity at City. The Union delivers a range of services and support for its members, from independent academic advice to supporting our Programme Representatives to enhance their course, to promoting the employability development of students through our Student Activities department. The Union also work closely with our City, University of London colleagues.

Both the Union and University are committed to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and are collaborating to undertake projects and initiatives to improve the experiences and outcomes of students and staff from a range of groups and backgrounds.

Who you are looking for?

To support these projects and initiatives, the Union and University are looking for students who have an interest in and are committed to advancing race equality and would like to contribute to the progression of EDI projects impacting on City students and join the newly formed Student EDI Steering Group.

What does the role entail?

The Student EDI Steering Group will be asked to undertake the following activities as part of their role:

• Reviewing, commenting on and contributing to projects by supporting and engaging with City’s Race Equality Charter Self-Assessment Team and Student Attainment Working Group
• Attend up to three meetings of the Student EDI Steering Group per term, which will include the following:

• One hour of reading and preparation for the meeting
• A meeting lasting at least one hour, or up to two hours
• Dependent on the length of the meeting, some short follow-up work may be required
• To engage and consult with their peers on matters to be presented to them as a Student EDI Representative, presenting this feedback to the Student EDI Steering Group meetings
• To provide honest and representative feedback and commentary on the work presented to them, and to actively contribute to the discussions of the Student EDI Steering Group
• To maintain confidentiality where this is required of them by the coordinators of the Student Steering Group
• To attend any required training or briefing sessions as part of the role

Is this a paid role?

Yes, Student EDI Representatives will be paid £10.75 per hour (London Living Wage 2020)

• Be a current City student enrolled for the duration of the 2020/21 academic year

• Be a UK-domiciled student (optional)

• Have the right to work in the UK

• Be able to commit up to 9 hours per term to this role

• Have a lived-experience relevant to, or commitment to, race equality
