First ever Hustle & Bustle 2024

On October 22, we kicked off our very first Hustle & Bustle event at Northampton Square Pavilion!

Why We Created This Event

Here at City St George’s University of London, we know students want careers that fit their interests, their studies, and their values. Plus, with the rising cost of living, some students are turning creative to make ends meet, and we want to support that! The Students’ Union created Hustle & Bustle as part of our 2023-26 Strategic Plan, focusing on real-life skills and employability. This event also gave the Research and Enterprise department, CityVentures, a chance to connect with students and their business ideas.

We had some fantastic applicants, and even received some great event ideas we’ve forwarded to other teams for support!

Meet the Students Behind the Stalls

Esther Wan – Centred One

Esther’s idea is a cool, modern clothing brand for young Christians, with designs that reflect faith in a stylish, professional way. Check out @centredone on Instagram to see more of her ideas and support her launch!

Sara Asif – Drownies

Brownies or donuts? Why not both? Sara’s Drownies brings these two treats together! If you missed grabbing one at the event, don’t worry, you can order through her Instagram @drownies_ or website

Nayab Asif – Ghosted

With her brand Ghosted, Nayab is all about affordable luxury fashion. Running the business entirely on her own, she’s eager to grow and reach new customers. Give her a follow on Instagram and TikTok at @_ghosted_official to show your support! (Nayab not pictured; her friend is shown here on her behalf.)

Momina Naz – Combat Sport Hijabs (name to be confirmed)

As a Muslim athlete, Momina noticed the lack of hijabs that stay secure during sports. She’s working on an idea to create better options for athletes like herself. Follow her journey on Instagram @mnazfighter, and and if you are interested and want to support City Women in Sport and Fitness Society, follow @cis.wis.soc.

What’s Next?

We can’t wait to see how our winners use their £100 prize to keep growing their businesses! If you’ve got a side hustle idea (or a full-blown business), connect with CityVentures for expert tips, guidance, and upcoming events to help you thrive.

Feeling inspired? Keep an eye out for next year’s Hustle & Bustle!
