Ayla Hamzayeva

About me:

I hate food that’s too spicy because I love to enjoy flavour! An interesting fact about me  is that I like learning about new things, almost as much as I like talking! That means whenever you see me walking about on campus, you can always stop and chat with me.

I have also done some form of sport for my whole life, and have enjoyed things such as horse riding, kick-boxing, and even judo! I am not really a gym person because I like variety.

More about my work:

I am your new SU President for 2024/25. I’m an international student, originally from Azerbaijan and this year I’ll be focusing on Mental Health and Wellbeing.

I want to take the pressure off being a student by making City a safer place to speak about mental health and accessibility issues. Part of this means improving assessments for diagnoses and creating events and activities to raise more awareness of symptoms.

Why?

So that students get access to the help they need quickly, simply put!

Ashton Shephard

About me:

I love fashion, sports (especially football) and learning about different cultures and languages in my spre time. I'm currently trying to learn French, c'est bon! I would say that a pet peeve of mine is noisy eaters, which is probably really common!

More about my work:

I’m one of your new deputy presidents at the Student Union. I will specifically be working on improving student wellbeing and equity at City. This comes in the form of prioritising good mental health, celebrating diversity and the different faith groups we have here at City.

I am especially excited to include my passion for finance in my role as part of a Students' Union. My new Finance Friday initiative aims to teach young people tips on money management, a skill not usually taught in schools and promote resources freely available to students more widely (find out about Black Bullion here)

I am a sociable individual, eager to engage with students, being a visible face students can talk to on all matters.

Nasir Mohammed

About me:

I’m a huge boxing and UFC fan and in my spare time I train in MMA. Outside of sports I run my own perfume brand so naturally that means I hate things that smell bad – I can’t help but offer people a little sample here and there (although when it’s summer, that’s more for my sake!)

More about my work:

I am one of your new SU Deputy Presidents for 2024/25. I am responsible for the “Community and Sport” side of things, this means that I will specialise in improving student life. I’ll mostly be working with faith groups, at events, with postgrad communities and also improving employability.

In fact, working on student employability is one of my main missions. I aim to improve student employability within the university and also post studies! I'm excited for the union to support our future industry pioneers!

Evelyn Harwood

About me:

I hate talking about myself but love to yap. Most of my life revolves around the SGH boat club, being their second favourite shouty little cox. I also love running and swimming, and just generally being active. Occasionally I attempt some creativity, having taken a show to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer with the Revue society, and I love playing music (not so sure my housemates love my playing though).

About my work:

As deputy president of welfare most of what I want to work on this year focuses on student wellbeing and support, especially better signposting and communication about what services are available. I also want to bring in more wellbeing socials this year, working with all the societies in Tooting to maintain the George’s spirit in CSGSU.

Joseph Kenwright

About Me:

I'm your new SU Deputy President of Education (Tooting)! I graduated as a Paramedic in July after studying Paramedical Science for 3 years at St Georges.

I grew up in the Lake District in the northwest of England and moved to London in 2021. I love spicy food so the plethora of options in Tooting is really to my taste. I've played both Football and Rugby since school and carried on playing throughout my time at University.

About my work:

My main aims throughout the year are to increase transparency and communication while championing education reform and student experience. I utilised the Students' Union during my time as a student, becoming Treasurer and Social Secretary for a society and I aim to build on this knowledge and experience to deliver for students.
