We are deeply saddened and outraged by the recent racist riots occurring across the UK. These acts of violence and hatred have no place in our society, and we stand united in condemning them. The racist discrimination and riots across the country are being reported under the false label of ‘protest’ whilst our ethnic minority communities are the primary targets for this hateful movement.
City St George’s Students’ Union condemns the actions of violence, discrimination, abusive language and hate speech against any individual, group or religion. As a Union we take pride in our commitment to diversity, inclusion and creating a safe environment both on and off our campuses, regardless of background.
We understand that many of you may be feeling anxious and concerned about your safety and the safety of your loved ones. Your wellbeing is our main priority. We are working closely with the university to ensure our campus remains a safe and inclusive environment.
To our international students, we also recognise the additional stress and uncertainty you may be experiencing in planning your return to London for the start of term. Please know we are here to support you.
We stand in solidarity with all those affected and will continue to work tirelessly to combat racism in all its forms.
If you feel distressed or upset by recent events, the Union and the University are available to help. Feel free to reach out, it is okay to speak about not being okay. We are here for you.
