City University London is due to be impacted by industrial action this term, with the University College Union (UCU) taking action nationally and locally on the following 18 days in February and March:?
Wednesday 1 February
Thursday 9 February - Friday 10 February
Tuesday 14 February - Thursday 16 February
Tuesday 21 February - Thursday 23 February
Monday 27 February - Thursday 2 March
Thursday 16 March - Friday 17 March
Monday 20 March - Wednesday 22 March
UCU has voted in favour of taking strike action as part of wider industrial disputes around pensions and pay and working conditions. UCU is also re-balloting its members to gain a mandate for further strike action through the rest of this academic year.
What can I expect?
As a student at City, some of the things you may experience over the next 18 days include:?
-
Lectures and seminars being cancelled.
-
Subjects being missed due to cancelled teaching.?
-
Individual meetings with academics not going ahead.?
-
A delay in email replies.?
What is the SU doing?
City Students’ Union is here to?support you through the strikes, here are some of the things we are working with City University to ensure:
-
Effective arrangements to manage the impact of strikes on your teaching and learning are put in place.
-
That, where possible, you receive timely communication from your course / School about disruption.
-
That you understand what you can reasonably expect on those days vs. what your course promised.
-
That student services, like Student Health & Wellbeing, remain accessible on strike days.
-
That unpaid staff wages are put into student funding to support students who are struggling.
-
That you know how to make a complaint for compensation if your teaching and learning is disrupted. You can read more about that here.
We're keen to hear from you on anything else you think we should be doing about the strikes. If you have ideas, email us on?studentsunion@city.ac.uk
If you want to find out more about why the UCU is striking, you can contact the?City University UCU Branch or speak to your lecturers if they have announced that they will be striking, although they are not mandated to inform you.
