We’ve been working over the past two weeks on the following;

 

  1. The Digital Poverty Project has officially been launched! If you are struggling with technology/WiFi, please apply here.
     
  2. Over 3 weeks, we conducted over 2500 Student Check-in calls. We spoke to students to see how they have been getting on recently and letting them know about support that’s available to them.
     
  3. We have successfully launched our Black History Month campaign, where we held many events and activities to address key themes and priorities for students.
     
  4. We have published a statement in support of the End SARS protests, you can find it here. We encourage all students to educate themselves about what is happening in Nigeria.
     
  5. We have conducted Assessment and Feedback Focus Groups to better understand the issues that students face in regards to this.
     
  6. We have been holding Programme Rep Training sessions via Zoom, which have been attended by Reps across all 5 schools.
     
  7. We have held a series of focus groups with students from each of our 5 schools to better understand how students are settling into University. Recommendations arising from these sessions will be taken to the University to lobby for the things you’ve asked for.
     
  8. We’ve held more paid community feedback forums.
     
  9. We met with the University’s Property and Facilities team to explore spaces for students that can be developed to enhance our on-campus experience.
     
  10. We held a Halls Residents Forum and gathered feedback around what it’s like to be in Halls right now and what COVID measures are in place for students.
     
  11. We are planning for the launch of Islamophobia Awareness Month, which takes place in November. Keep an eye out to see what we’ve got in store for you all!
     
  12. We are recruiting for an undergraduate student trustee to sit on our Board of Trustees - keep an eye out for more information to come.
     
  13. We met with the Careers department to discuss how we can work together to ensure students are more employable.
     
  14. We have been working with staff via the Network for Racial Justice (NRJ) on Recruitment, Progression and success of BAME Students.
     
  15. We met with the UCU and UNISON leaders to discuss how we can work together in order to bring about mutually beneficial outcomes.
     
  16. We met with Academic Skills to discuss how they can better support BAME students.
     
  17. We have had individualised meetings with SASS and Business School Deans to directly voice student concerns and issues. We’ll be meeting with the rest of the Schools over the next few weeks.
