This term we will be celebrating UK Student Volunteering Week 2024, a nation-wide week dedicated to highlighting the incredible work that City student volunteers have done in their local communities, student societies, and for national and international charities. This year’s SVW will take place between Monday 12 – Friday 16 February, and each day the university is putting on different events for you to get stuck in!

 

Monday 12th February: Leadership Day 

SU Volunteering and Leadership Showcase 

Monday's theme is Volunteering and Leadership and City Volunteering is putting on a showcase in the Pavilion to celebrate all our student volunteer leaders across the Students' Union. Come down to the Pavilion to find out how you can get involved in voluntary leadership positions across the SU next year.

 When: 12pm-2pm

Tuesday 13th February: Employability Day 

Charities on Campus: Resources for Autism 

This week the university is welcoming Resources for Autism to campus! Resources for Autism provide practical services for children and adults with a diagnosis of autism and for those who love and care for them. Much of their volunteering roles take place in the community, with their Reach Out Befriending and Mentoring Support volunteers and in their specialist autism groups. You can find out more about their work here. This is an informal event where no booking is required. Feel free to stop by and have a chat with our amazing partner!

Panel Event: ‘Volunteer Visions: Transforming Communities for a better tomorrow’ 

Are you a changemaker? Are you looking to find out more about how you can make a difference in your communities, whether locally, nationally or internationally? Do you want to pursue a career in social impact, charity and community work, international non-profit organisations, or global giving and philanthropy? Tuesday's theme is Employability, so come to this panel to discover the pathways our panellists have gone down in their journey within the voluntary sector and learn about the routes available to you.

 Panellists:

- Dr Justin Davis-Smith, Associate Professor of Voluntary Sector Management at Bayes Business School

- National Multifaith Youth Centre

- Islington Deputy Young Mayor

- A representative from one of our charity partners

Wednesday 14th February: Sustainability Day 

One-off off-campus volunteering at Cody Dock 

Looking to get a bit of fresh air away from campus? On Wednesday we'll be heading to Canning Town, East London, to get stuck into brickwork and restoration of the dock. Restoration began in 2004, and the dock can't be brought back to life until the Victorian bricks on the sides have been fully replaced! Come along to help rejuvenate the space for the local community, as well as meet new people! You can find out more about the restoration project here

 

We'll be travelling in a group from City, so feel free to travel with us, or meet us there before the session begins!

Thursday 15th February: Wellbeing Day 

Sharing Words of Encouragement Stall 

Thursday's theme is Wellbeing, and City Volunteering is running a stall where you can come and write letters with words of encouragement to be sent off to your friends and peers at City (anonymously or not!). City Volunteering will aim to send the letters out on City Mental Health Day 2024 (in March) or around assessment season. Come along and take 5 minutes out of your day to make someone else's great!

Friday 16th February: Student Heroes Day 

Celebrating Our Student Hero Volunteers 

Friday's theme is Student Heroes, and we'll be sharing stories from City students who are our volunteer heroes. Throughout the day, we'll be hearing from students and alumni about their experiences volunteering, what they gained from it, and why they'd recommend it to every City student.
