YOUR TIME HAS COME… to vote in the Autumn Elections!
Voting is open from today (Monday 1st of November) until Thursday 16:00 (4th of November). Put in your votes NOW to make sure that the most suitable candidates will represent you throughout the year.
How to vote?
- Go to https://www.citystudents.co.uk/vote or scan the QR code (available on the flyers and posters all over campus).
- Make sure you have logged into our website using your student details.
- Read the manifestos and vote for your favourite candidates. You can vote for 1 Student Council Chair, 3 Student Councillor (representing your school) and 6 NUS Delegates
How does voting work?
The voting system the Union uses is called Single Transferable Vote (STV). Voters are asked to rank the candidates in order of preference. Voters can select candidates they want in the order they want them (1,2,3 etc) and it builds their vote. Once they’re happy, they can submit their vote. Voters may express as many or as few preferences as they wish, but cannot mark more than one candidate with the same number.
To win, candidates must poll above 50% of the votes, either by totalling more than half of the first preferences or by redistribution of votes.
RON
In case you don’t like any of the candidates, don’t worry, we have you covered: You can always vote Re-Open Nomination or RON as we like to call it. By not voting you become just another statistic. However, by voting for RON, because you don’t approve of any of the candidates running, you become a voice for the disengaged. If candidates see there are a lot of RON votes, they will reconnect with what the voters want!
- Finally, click on the vote tab and vote for your favourite candidates then just click submit votes.
Results will be announced on Friday, the 5th of November, so stay tuned!
