This week is Vote Week at City Students’ Union and we’re all set to have an exciting election for SU Officers, Assembly Members, and NUS Delegates. You’ve probably seen posters around campus and might have already been spoken to by candidates - but what is it all about?
City Students’ Union plays a significant role in how students experience life here at City, from the events and societies you’re part of to the support available to you. Being able to provide you with the right opportunities and services relies on students telling us what you need and what life is like for you right now. We want elections to be big this year - and with so many candidates to choose from across 8 positions, we think it will be bigger than ever.
As a student, you are a member of City Students’ Union - this means you are entitled to shape how we are run and what services we provide. The quickest and easiest way to do that is by voting.
You want to see things done differently at City - SU Officers and Assembly Members have the chance to make genuine change here, from how funds are allocated to how your academic course is run. Choosing the right candidate for you means you have a representative that can amplify your voice and ideas.
You care about your degree and employability - the SU is a major force driving forward policies and campaigns about teaching quality. Choosing someone who you know will represent you in these conversations and who is serious about making a positive impact will be useful to your degree.
You want to see more people like you in positions of power - being part of a minority group, such as being an LGBTQ+, BME, or disabled student, can often mean being underrepresented at senior levels. Giving your vote means you can choose a candidate that will support specific policies on issues that affect you.
You want more social events - if you want to see a difference in the way student groups are funded and what opportunities there are to build community and meet new people, voting is a great way to voice your opinions and make an influence.
All of the candidates are in it for a reason - maybe you have a friend running or someone from your course. All of the candidates are running because they have big ideas. Make sure to speak to them and you might find some inspiration.
You don’t care about the SU or feel represented - if you don’t think we’ve been doing a good job, we want to hear about it! Voting is a great way to freshen things up. Voting also makes it easier to challenge elected members later on in the year and hold them accountable for the work we’ve done.
You could win big prizes - we'll be releasing prizes for each voting milestone we reach. You could be in with a chance to win apple airpods, a nintendo switch, a PS5, and more!
Voting takes a few seconds, but it genuinely makes a difference to your student experience. You can vote on campus at our vote stalls or log in to the website and vote online!
