Event Description

Details

Join us for a safe, inclusive and creative space to celebrate University Mental Health Day! Whether you're joining for the discussion, creative expression or just to take a break from studying, this event is FREE for everyone and perfect for you so come vibe with us - City students, non-City students and staff.

⭐ What to expect:

- A warm welcome speech by your incredible committee and President, setting the stage for a welcoming atmosphere. Do you want to find out more about what the Mental Health Society offers? Don't miss this! Soft, calming background music and small refreshments will be available - with takeaway options for those fasting.

- Meaningful group discussions throughout the event on mental health, including important topics such as, but not limited to, women's mental health for International Women's History Month. The Open Mic is fully inclusive, recognising that mental health impacts all students, regardless of background and demographics. While we may highlight certain themes such as women's mental health, this event is a space to explore many aspects of mental health and so this will not be the only topic, as we acknowledge that everyone’s experiences are unique and valid! You can also submit anonymous mental health topics, opinions or quotes for us to talk about.

- An Open Mic where YOU can share your creative talent - whether thats mental health poetry, spoken word, freestyle, personal reflections or creative performances. This is optional - you're more than welcome to sit back, listen and support others who want to perform but we encourage you to put yourself out there!

- A mindful zone during the event, with a colouring station and creative writing area to relax. If you feel inspired to do so, you can reflect on your mental health privately through journal prompts, gratitude excercises and goal-setting. Explore your creativitiy and write about something!

- Informative resources on mental health and self-care strategies to take home and explore, to support you during the term.

We encourage you to bring a friend and come in groups, with your creative pieces! Feel free to bring any work along, whether its something small you need to get done or a book you want to read - sit, relax, snack and talk while you work. Make new connections with like-minded people and learn something new about yourself and about mental health.

We invite anyone who feels comfortable to share their own first-hand experiences, perspectives, or creative work. We acknowledge that our event falls during Ramadan, and the Mental Health Society sends our best wishes to those observing. Light refreshments will be on offer and background music will be playing, but we strive to create a comfortable space for all so we invite you to come if you feel inspired to do so.
